and is powered via the cigarette lighter or can be hard wired in.
By using the latest available technology, the
Origin b2 has raised speed trap detection to a new level:
It will warn the driver of all fixed speedtraps
in plenty of time and with no false alarms.
There is no better speed trap location system;
no other product compares with the quality and unbeatable range of standard
features of the Origin b2
Origin b2 features:
- GPS (Global Positioning System) satellite technology.
- Over 4000 fixed speed traps stored in an integral
database.
- Speed trap database/software may be updated
using a PC with internet connection.
- No false alarms.
- Unique patented features.
- Backlit LCD screen display.
- Voice alerts.
- Keeps you aware of the prevailing speed limit,
reducing the risk of a £60 fine and three points on your licence (minimum).
Place your mouse pointer over the Origin b2 below to
see a sample display of your speed,
the local speed limit, the name of the road, the type of speedtrap you
are approaching
and the distance to the speedtrap
High resolution screen with enhanced graphics including:
- Direction of vehicle travel.
- Advanced warning of all safety camera (fixed
installation) sites.
- Warning of mobile/portable speed traps via
laser and optional radar modules.
- Advanced warning of congestion camera sites
linked to congestion charging zone timings.
- Advanced warning of school proximity zones.
There are over 25,000 primary and secondary schools
in the UK. The b2 gives time-sensitive warnings when approaching an area
with a school when children are liable to be outside the school gates.

Information
on the Origin b2 Radar Detector - Detects if a camera is active or not.
Questions
- Q.
Where does the product sit in the vehicle and what does it look like?
A. The Origin b2 i will be mounted on top or on the front of the
dashboard by way of a supplied mounting cradle with a heavy duty Velcro-type
fastening and powered via the cigarette lighter or it can be hard wired
in. It is a high quality unit made from high quality materials, with
a back lit LCD screen displaying various unit status indicators and
speed trap information. Five buttons control the various user-programmable
functions. The unit is very compact and can be slipped into a shirt
pocket when not in use in it's cradle.
- Q. How does the Origin b2 work?
A. The Origin blue i utilises GPS technology - there are 24
satellites orbiting the Earth owned by the American Government, 12
of which are in this Hemisphere. Once the device has locked on to three
or more satellites, triangulation calculations are used to determine
the exact position of the vehicle. It is currently possible to achieve
a positioning accuracy of under 5 metres. The position of the vehicle
is constantly being calculated (at least once per second) and compared
with the database of coordinates of fixed speed trap sites, contained
within each unit. When you are approaching a fixed speed trap site,
a proximity warning will sound, made up of a synthesised voice alert
and a series of beeps, together with a visual warning comprising flashing
LEDs and on-screen information as to the type of speed trap being approached.
See our product demo below.
- Q. What about the speed trap database/how
do I update my device?
A. Origin's speed trap database is contained on our central server,
hosted by an ISP (Internet Service Provider). We currently have more
than 4000 fixed speed trap installations logged, and it will be possible
for each user to download updated speed trap information very easily
using the supplied software via the internet. The update service is
free for the first six months, and thereafter will cost £50 per annum. We
employ members of staff whose sole function is to keep our master database
of trap locations up to date. They have various sources of information,
not least of which is input from our customer base. If you ever come
across a speed trap site that does not trigger a warning, then you
should press the 'New' button to store the co-ordinates in a memory
chip within the unit. This information will be uploaded to Origin Technologies
whenever the user plugs his device into a the internet to update the
internal database in his Origin b2. This new trap will be visited and
verified by a member of our staff and then the information will be
stored on our master database.
- Q. How does the product compare with
conventional radar detectors?
A. Conventional radar detectors are in fairly common usage in the
UK, especially since they became fully legal after a Court of Appeal
hearing in 1998. However, police radar traps work on the same frequencies
as apparatus such as petrol station electronics, sliding doors in buildings,
alarm systems and traffic lights. Conventional radar detectors will
pick up these 'bogus' radar signals and provide the driver with unnecessary
warnings, which can be very irritating as these false alarms are often
very frequent. In contrast, the Origin b2 will only sound a warning
when there is a definite threat on the road ahead. There will be no
false alarms associated with using the Origin b2.
- Q. Will the device warn of red light
cameras?
A. No. We made a policy decision early on not to include red light
cameras. Motorists should not jump red lights and deserve to be prosecuted
if they do so.
- Q. Will the device warn of the new SVDD
(SPECS) cameras?
A. Yes. These are fixed camera sites, and as such we can store
the GPS coordinates in the database. SPECS are the new cameras that
record the number plates of all passing vehicles. A similar camera,
or series of cameras, up the road records the number plates again.
The exact distance between the cameras is known, and by recording the
time taken to travel between any given two points, the average speed
of all vehicles will be calculated. A speeding ticket will be issued
automatically to drivers who were travelling above a certain speed.
- Q. Will the product work on a motorbike?
A. Origin Technologies will be developing a version in the future
with an in-built battery pack for use on bikes.Speed Trap Technology
The incorporation of GPS into speed trap detection devices is essential,
as many of the latest speed traps do not emit radar waves; conventional
radar detectors cannot pick up such traps.
